Self-made Christmas Cards

User generated Christmas Cards :o)

Do it yourself Xmas Cards

OK, I am done with the Xmas cards. This year I send some self-made Christmas cards which I made with the help of moo.com. It’s easy and fun to make something personal and I really hope the recipients will enjoy my creations :o)

Update: I got some Feedback:

  • Great cards, we just got them.
  • Thanks for the postcard! It really made my day and it was a very pleasant surprise.

And here one of my favorite new year greetings I got for 2010: “Lieber Maciej, Eine großartig glückliche Dekade mit mächtigen sozialen, mobilen und vernetzen Ideen, die die Herzen der Menschen erobern!” :o)

Christmas Party 2009 #2

2009.12.09-W-Feier
Chair staff and my chocolate dessert.

Dinner with the research colleagues

Tonight I went for my second christmas party this year at the same restaurant as yesterday; Artischocke. I hade a great evening together with my team mates of the Department of Educational Science & Media Education (Prof. Dr. Claudia de Witt) at the Institute of Educational Science and Media Reserach at the University of Hagen.  The highlight was that the waiter firstly forgot our dessert, than he told us that the dessert was sold out and he suggested us another one, but after a while we got a different one, so they took it back again. But finally after what felt like over one hour we got our chocolate dessert :o)

BITKOM Social Media Working Committee

2009.12.09-BITKOM
Lecture by Angela Schmitz-Axe from Deloitte Consulting.

Social Media in Germany in the early stages

It was my first time joining a BITKOM Social Media Working Committee. After the reception by Florian Koch (BITKOM) we had an introduction into the projected theme, goals and activities. Interestingly we heard that BITKOM itself is not active (yet) in social media, but today I found the BITKOM twitter account with over 200 tweets and 700 followers – quite confusing. The argumentation was to do nothing in Social Media, before you do something halfhearted and fail.

In the first lecture Thilo Többens (Deloitte Consulting) spoke about the “Don’ts” of social media activities, using examples of ryanair.com and bmw.com. Angela Schmitz-Axe (Deloitte Consulting) added the Deloitte point of view on Social Media Eco System. With her statistics she also showed how slow Germany is in terms of using social media in comparison to USA, but also other European countries. Thilo Többens spoke about an adequate and reliable measurement of social media initiatives that needs to consider both quantitative and qualitative metrics for a Social Media ROI. The introduced Key Success Factors for a successful Social Media Strategy were also interesting; e.g. to develop a business case and to establish clear guidelines.

Christmas Party 2009 #1

2009.12.08-W-Feier
The team, more team mates, Arkadius and me.

Dinner with postgraduate companions

In this year my first christmas party was together with the team of the Chair of Business Administration, Organization and Planning (Prof. Dr. Ewald Scherm), at the Department of Business Administration and Economics at the University of Hagen. We had a great evening at the restaraunt called Artischocke and it was good to see some ‘old’ colleagues who soon will leave the University of Hagen due new challenges – e.g. Lisa Fleischmann, Gotthard Pietsch and Arkadius Stiller. But I also met some new team mates like Sindi Skroch and Henning Rode.

Podcasting, Mobile Learning and Second Life

2009.12.08-Palitha-Edirisingha
Lecture and networking.

Best practice in podcasting

By invitation from Dr. Olaf Zawacki-Richter, today Dr. Palitha Edirisingha, a lecturer in E-Learning at Beyond Distance Research Alliance, University of Leicester (UK), visited the University of Hagen. In the afternoons he hold a lecture on “Podcasting, Mobile Learning and Second Life: Some Pedagogical Applications to Support Student Learning in Higher Education”. Palitha Edirisingha spoke about how to best design podcasts in courses, based on his operating experiences that he also wrote about in a book with Gilly Salmon about “Podcasting for Learning in Universities“. Later on he showed us a live demo on their projects in Second Life, but unfortunately didn’t have the time to tell us more about his mobile learning project called WoLF.

Santa Claus Run 2009 at Hengsteysee

2009.12.05-Nikolauslauf
Me (truly) and the crowd, together with Oliver and Santa Claus meets Angel.

26. Nikolauslauf by Ruderclub Westfalen Herdecke

Today I took part at the 26th Santa Claus Run (Nikolauslauf) hosted by the Rowing Club Westfalen Herdecke. Every year they organise this fun run around our lake called Hengsteysee with the length of 9,6 km. Together with my teammate Oliver we needed 59 minutes for this running track and achieved places 565 and 566 (of 643 male runners – ok, it was more a fun run for us). The crowd (1,023 runners) was in good mood and we had some nice impressions on the way – not only because of my costume. For example we met an angel (Jessica Prempert) joining the run who definitely should get a prize for the best costume today and at the finish line our teammate Sandra was waiting for us, but she didn’t recognise us due the costumes :o)

In memory of Maxi

2009.11.24-Maxi
Christmas 2004

Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life.

This post is dedicated to our family dog Maxi. The loss of a pet is never easy. Maxi was a faithful companion for over 13 years, but passed away today. Who will bark at me now when I visit my parents?

Death 2.0 or Eternity 2.0?

2009.11.20-Peter-Trauth-XING
One of my xing-contacts that passed away.

Infinitely trapped in the net with web 2.0

What happens with all of your social media profiles after you have left the real world? Today I heard by accident through a mutual contact that one of my over 700 business contacts at xing.com is already dead since almost two years now I didn’t check this information directly at his family and I don’t want to publish untruths, but my deepest sympathies for the passing of Peter Trauth. I met him back in 2006 at the Learntec and I was a little bit surprised that he didn’t respond to my invitations to the Mobile Learning Day 2009, but now I understand. His company 5mo Group AG seems to be deleted and also his domain 5mo.ch and his email don’t work anymore, but his xing-profile is still online.

This incidence makes somehow thought-provoking. What will happen with my content in internet after I have passed away? Will my friends and contents even notice that I am gone? Or will some social media services continue to use my data for business proposes? I mean they can still use my identity to automatically poke other users and send them birthday greetings from my and in this way use my content draw on other people to their services. I suppose even as a nominal member I am still valuable for the social media services; no investor will check if I am alive, but will be happy about one more user in the database. So many questions to answer and the time is running out. It feels a little uncomfortable to use services like mywonderfullife.com and to “plan your funeral, your way”. I think I will keep this blog as my virtual gravesite, but how to hand on all of my social networking profiles to my bequests?
